Horse hair baskets are made by both the Pima and Tohono O'odham of southern Arizona. Each basket, usually in miniature, represents hours of intricate artistry. Due to past years scarcity of materials (willow, yucca, devil's claw) horse hair has become an alternative. Today with more basket weavers, horse hair has become a vital form of basketry. Each is unique as well as collectable. Shape, design, and style reflect the full-sized example of Pima and Tohono O'odham basketry, only on a much smaller scale. |
